One of the main challenges of a post-built house is keeping the sod alive and looking good. Especially since it will likely be put down during a time when there is not much rain. You have to water and water and water some more. Don’t be surprised if your first water bill after getting sod is quite high.
Luckily, the City of Columbus Water Department acknowledges this and has a program in place to adjust your bill. Since they base sewer charges on the amount of water consumed, this will mean that your total bill won’t reflect your actual sewage usage since the water is going out to the lawn and not utilizing the sewer. To have a sod adjustment considered, simply follow these instructions.
- Send an e-mail to customer service at utilityleadrep@columbus.gov
- Include this information in the body of the e-mail
- Date when the sod put down
- Time frame of watering
- How many people in household
- Copy of current bill
After you follow these instructions, you should get a revised bill or a credit on future statements if you have already paid the bill. Keep in mind that only the sewer portion will be adjusted since you do use all that water. It will still be a nice amount credited back to your account though.
